Restaurant Review ~ Palm Terrace, Fairmont Royal Pavilion

Printer-friendly version

For those of you who don't know me, I love to eat. I've been in the restaurant business for over 10 years ~ so I also like to critique, as the chef's and general managers of our own restaurants are well aware ... food presentation, food quality, service ... I always have comments!! Barbados is well known for it's array of quality restaurants ~ I've had the opportunity to eat at many of them, but I'll start my first review of the restaurant I chose to eat at tonight!

Royal Glitter Bay Villas is located directly next door to the Fairmont Royal Pavilion. Tonight I dined at their restaurant the Palm Terrace. It is a 2 minute walk on the beach to get there and is very convenient! The atmosphere is very romantic with palm trees with mini lights everywhere. It is an open-air setting directly on the beach. They have entertainment nightly and tonight's duo was wonderful ~ with song's from Etta James' At Last to Rihanna's Umbrella.

The service tonight was terrible. There were two servers on and my server basically ignored me. Fortunately, the other server tried to cover but I still had to wait for a drink, had dirty dishes sitting forever, and my cappuccino came 10 minutes after I finished dessert.

The food was wonderful. I had the beef tenderloin with whipped potatoes and asparagus (it was supposed to come with carrots ~ but I don't eat orange veggies!). The presentation was beautiful and it was cooked perfectly. For dessert, I had homemade chocolate molten cake with vanilla ice cream. I would have enjoyed it better with my cappuccino.

Barbados restaurants typically add a 10% service charge to your bill automatically. My total came to $230 BDS ~ for this price I expect better service. My server had someone else deliver my bill and didn't even say good night when I left. But when staying at Royal Glitter Bay Villas, it is still a good option for live music and great food without having to go very far.
